The fastest growing search set in the trade
EV charger installs, brand specific queries, panel capacity questions and battery storage. Demand pushed by state vehicle targets and new construction requirements, and a category most contractor sites still have no page for.
The car arrives before the circuit does
The sequence is almost always the same. Somebody orders a car, the delivery date lands, and roughly two weeks before it arrives they realize the garage has one outlet on a shared circuit. That is when they search, and they search with urgency because the car is coming whether the circuit is ready or not.
It is an unusually good search to own. The buyer is committed, the timeline is fixed, the job is well defined, and the person searching has just spent a large sum on a car and is not in a mood to shop three quotes over a fortnight.
In older housing the existing service frequently cannot carry the load, so the charger job becomes a panel upgrade first. A $1,500 install turns into a $4,700 job. That conversion is the real value of this category and it is why the ticket figure understates it.
Demand is being pushed from two directions at once. State vehicle targets are increasing the number of cars, and new construction requirements in several markets are putting circuits into houses before anyone owns an electric car. The second one is quieter and it builds a base of work that does not depend on a delivery date.
They ordered the car in March. They discover the garage circuit in June, two weeks before delivery.

People search the brand, not the acronym
This is the vocabulary gap at its widest. The trade says EVSE. Almost nobody outside the trade has ever typed those four letters.
| WHAT THE TRADE SAYS | WHAT THE CUSTOMER TYPES | INTENT |
|---|---|---|
| EVSE installation | EV charger install near me | Ready to book |
| Level 2 charging equipment | Tesla charger installation | Ready to book, brand specific |
| Service capacity assessment | Does my panel support an EV charger | Researching, one step earlier |
| Load calculation | Do I need a panel upgrade for an EV charger | Researching, high conversion |
| Dedicated branch circuit | 240v outlet for car charger | Ready to book, cheaper job |
| Interconnection | Electrician for solar hookup | Referred, usually by an installer |
| Energy storage system | Home battery installation | Researching, long cycle |
ONE PAGE PER BRAND YOU ACTUALLY INSTALL BEATS ONE PAGE TRYING TO COVER EVERY BRAND.
An honest answer to whether the existing panel can take a charger, written for a homeowner. It captures the searcher one step before the install query, it is close to uncontested, and it routes directly into the higher ticket job.
You are the electrician, not the array company
Most electrical contractors are not competing with solar installers, and writing as though you are puts you into the most expensive, most crowded search category in the sector for no reason. The electrical work around solar is a different set of searches and a far more sensible target.
An array frequently needs a service the house does not have. This is a panel upgrade with a specific trigger, and it is searched as its own thing.
The utility side of the connection. Often subcontracted to an electrician by the solar company, which makes the installer the customer rather than the homeowner.
Growing steadily and often bought separately from the array, sometimes years later. Long research cycle, large ticket, and the searcher is usually already a solar owner.
Correcting work a solar company did badly or left unfinished. An uncomfortable category to write about and a genuinely searched one, particularly where a large installer has left a market.
Solar installers subcontract electrical work constantly, and they search for contractors the same way anyone else does. A page that speaks to an installer rather than a homeowner is a small amount of writing for a channel most contractors never think to target.
A category still cheap to win
Every high value search category in this trade was uncontested once. Panel upgrades were cheap to rank for fifteen years ago. This is the current version of that, and it will not stay this way.
Driven by state vehicle targets and by new construction requirements in several markets, which put circuits into houses before anyone in them owns an electric car.
Most contractor sites still have no page for this at all. The ones that do usually have a single paragraph on a general services page.
A large share of installs in older housing become panel upgrades. The category earns more than its face ticket, which is the best kind of search to own.
Solar and EV questions
Is EV charger installation worth targeting? 01
Yes, and it is the least contested high growth category in the trade right now. Installations run around $1,500, the searcher has usually already bought the car, and the term set is large because people search by brand as often as by function. Very few contractor sites have a page for it at all, let alone one page per brand.
Should I have separate pages for different charger brands? 02
If you install them, yes. People search Tesla charger installation far more than they search EVSE installation, and brand terms convert better because the searcher is further along. One well written page per brand you actually work with is usually worth more than one general page trying to cover all of them.
Does the panel upgrade opportunity make this more valuable? 03
It is the whole reason this category is worth more than the ticket suggests. A large share of EV charger installations in older housing turn into a panel upgrade first, because the existing service cannot carry the load. A $1,500 job becomes a $4,700 job, and that conversion rate is why this search set outperforms its face value.
What about solar work? 04
Most electrical contractors are not installing arrays, and we do not recommend writing as though you are. What they do is the electrical side: service upgrades to support an array, interconnection, battery storage, and remediation of work a solar company did badly. Those are separate searches and they are far less competitive than solar installation itself.
How far ahead of the car delivery do people search? 05
Usually one to three weeks, which is a narrow and very actionable window. It also means the searcher has a deadline, so a contractor who answers the phone and can give a date wins more of these than one who is cheaper but slower to respond. Speed of response matters more in this category than in any other planned work.
Is commercial EV charging a different search? 06
Entirely. Workplace and multi family charging is bought by property managers and facilities managers on a long cycle, and it involves load studies, multiple ports, network hardware and sometimes utility coordination. It belongs with your commercial capability content rather than on a residential charger page, and the two should not compete for the same terms.
